George Laycock was a prolific writer who published more than 50 books (The Upland Game Hunter's Bible, The Varmint and Crow Hunter's Bible, the Deer Hunter's Bible (to name a few) and hundreds of magazine articles in publications such as Better Homes and Gardens, Field & Stream, Outdoor Life and Popular Science. He also was a field editor for Audubon magazine. He received a Circle of Chiefs award in 1970 and the Excellence in Craft Award in 1983 from the OWAA. Laycock focused on conservation writing and was a staunch advocate of sound environmental practices. "Autumn of the Eagle" (1974), perhaps his best book, was nominated for the National Book Award.
